As we hit the brightest day on Earth’s spin round the Sun (northern hemisphere pals), it really got me thinking about ‘light’ and this great quote from Eckhart Tolle’s 'The Power of Now', “Everything is shown up by being exposed to the light, and whatever is exposed to the light itself becomes light”.
On the Summer Solstice with the most day-light hours, I really wanted shine light on the shadowswe don’t always get to see on social media... Naturally people want to share their good news, but when we’re confronted by what ends up as an exaggerated ‘highlight reel’ of our peers’ lives, that can leave us envious.. “I wish my life was that”.. “how come he has it so easy?” etc.
I feel responsible to cast light on the shadow of my circumstances also. I'm lucky enough to post some extraordinary things to this page, but for every cool photo doing yoga with Wim Hof, please realise how many hours of grind and effort and sacrifice go into making this a reality. And once it became a reality, the great burden of responsibility caring for others and how personally I take it trying to help.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to get all ‘first world problems’ on you all, I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities I’ve created and taken, and for all the love and support I’ve had without which none of this would’ve been possible. But I can promise you my life is just as challenging now as it was 3 years ago when I was 100 lb overweight and chronically ill, it just happens to be a lot happier and healthier too.
Even though my life is as challenging as ever, the quality of ‘problems’ (even though I don’t like to use that word) are much better. Instead of struggling to get up a set of stairs because my joints are sore, now my struggle is getting up in front of people and taking responsibility to help them improve their lives too. I’m pouring my heart and soul because of an important promise…
This picture was taken during the time I spent in Peruvian Amazon, being treated with the indigenous plant medicines there. The photo doesn’t do it justice, it looked even more spectacular in person (although that might have been something to do with the medicine hah), but it was in the jungle I promised to use my life to help as many other people, no matter how hard it gets, and I knew it wouldn’t be easy.
So that’s what I’m doing! Taking what was nothing short of a miracle in my own life, overcoming Rheumatoid Arthritis and finding the confidence to help others, and using that to inspire people to reach their goals too. Helping them become happier, healthier and stronger in their bodies, and part of that journey is shining a light on all aspects of my personal journey, good and bad. I hope you’re enjoying the ride 💪🌀✨
